Western Sauce
Prep Time: 5 min.
Cook Time: 30 min.
What You Will Need:
4 TB Bacon Drippings
5 TB Flour
1 tsp. Salt
1 1/2 tsp. Ground Cumin
1/2 tsp. Granulated Garlic
2 tsp. Mexican Seasoning
1 TB Chili Powder
3 c. Chicken Broth
1 c. Buttermilk
What You Do:
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat add oil or bacon grease and melt
2. Add next six listings until thoroughly mixed and simmering.
2. Slowly add the chicken broth until heated and then stir in the buttermilk.
3. Cook over medium low heat stirring until it is the consistency of a thin sauce.
The Scoop:
I saw this recipe years ago and saved it but never made it. It is a simple sauce to make for meats, beans and the likes of enchiladas, relleno stuffed peppers or tamales. It is somewhat similar to an Enchilada Sauce but creamier using buttermilk which is an old western custom. Makes a generous amount for an entrée.
